Born in London, Ontario, Sweetland’s musical path began with a cherry red Peavey Stratocaster and a spark ignited by the film Satisfaction. She studied songwriting and performance at the University of Victoria and debuted her original work at the BC Festival of the Arts. Her albums, including Root, Heart & Crown and Own Sweet Time, showcase a blend of folk, rock, classical, and world music influences.

As a photographer, Sweetland is known for her self-portrait series Adventures in Sweetland, capturing the emotional essence of her travels. Her visual storytelling complements her music, creating a rich, immersive artistic experience.

She has toured extensively across Canada, the U.S., and Europe, collaborating with producers like Ken Whiteley and David Travers-Smith. Sweetland is also one half of the duo Captain Dirt & The Skirt, blending bluegrass, gypsy-jazz, and classical influences into a genre-defying sound.
